It’s natural to feel nervous or unsure when you call the Quit service but there is no need to worry. Quit Mid West Stop Smoking Advisors are fully trained, encouraging and non–judgemental. We are here to help and support you on your Quit journey.
- You can contact the Quit Mid West Programme by phone 065 6865841 or email us quit.midwest@hse.ie
- We understand that quitting smoking can be difficult but by contacting the service you double your chances of quitting and by taking some form of nicotine replacement medication (FREE to HSE staff!) you double your chances again of staying quit. In fact stop smoking for 28 days and you are 5 times more likely to quit for good!
- During the first contact we’ll ask you a few questions about yourself, your lifestyle and your smoking habit. This helps us to make sure you get the support you need.
- When you’re ready we'll ask you to set a quit date and decide if you’ll use nicotine replacement medication to help. You can set a date over the phone, or in a face-to-face meeting or via video link. If you don’t feel ready for this step, that’s okay - come back to us when the time’s right for you.
- We’ll answer all your quitting queries. Some questions might need to be answered by a GP or pharmacist - if so, we’ll point you in the right direction.
- Ahead of your quit day, prepare yourself. Get any nicotine replacement medication ready and get rid of all your cigarettes, lighters and ashtrays.
- You can choose the level of support you need. You can get face-to-face support from a stop smoking advisor. We’ll also contact/ meet you every week for the 4 weeks after your quit date. This is to discuss your progress and any concerns or queries.
- We like to check in with you 3 months after your quit date, and again 12 months after your quit date. This is to see how you’re doing.
