Limerick CYPSC is part of a network of organisations supporting Limerick Food Partnership (LFP). One of the objectives of this city and county-wide initiative is to build individual and community capacity to enhance their food related skills (e.g. menu planning, budget preparation, cooking) through the evidence based training and education programme Healthy Food Made Easy (HFME).

 

LFP are inviting organisations to express an interest in identifying staff WHO may be interested in being trained as a tutor to deliver HFME. Given current restrictions, it is likely that this training will be online.

 

It is intended for the training to be delivered in mid to late August, so that some HFME programmes can be rolled out in the September – December period. Again, given the uncertain restrictions, the roll out of the programme will look different to what we had initially envisaged and may include online delivery.

 

Training of Tutors:

Host organisations who are interested in nominating a member of staff for HFME training will need to note the following:

  • Delivery of a least 2 HFME programmes will be required before the end of June 2021. While every effort will be made to ensure the programme is delivered within the tutor’s target area, this cannot be guaranteed.
  • The first programme will preferably run during the September- December 2020 period.
  • Given the current social distancing guidelines the increased use of technology in delivery is to be expected.
  • Tutors will be supported with the appropriate resources when delivering the HFME programme
  • We will also explore the possibility of some digital skills type training for tutors to support the use of digital resources in the roll out of HFME.

 

Training of learners:

Regarding the delivery of the HFME, typically it is run in a kitchen with 6 – 8 individuals. Given current constraints, some or the entire programme may have to be delivered online. Contingencies for this eventuality are being planned for. In the event that training is delivered online:

  • Learners will be recruited by host organisations in small groups or perhaps even 2/3 family units working together.
  • Resource packs will be distributed to learners and components of HFME will be delivered using various pre recorded online resources and live tutorials/Q&A’s via zoom/whatapps/facebook live or other appropriate online mediums. 
  • Follow up with learners can take the form of calls, whatsapps/facebook messages and information/ pictures of dishes can be shared on facebook/whatsapp closed groups. 
  • Ingredients will be delivered weekly with recipes included. When/if possible, we will look to facilitate some shorter physical classes in kitchens where social distancing can be practiced.
  • Some organisations may have developed their own protocols around group engagement by the time training will commence. The Food Partnership we will be flexible and adaptable in the delivery of HFME in accordance with those protocols.
