Dear Colleagues,

In recent weeks you will be aware Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has been meeting with Senior HSE officials from the Department of Health to discuss immediate responses to the pressure on Emergency Departments across the country.

The discussions included the emergency department at UHL in Dooradoyle, Limerick and the Minister has approved a 4-6 week additional support plan to HSE Mid West in a bid to alleviate the pressure on the Emergency Department there.

Commencing next Monday, July 4th, for a period of 4-6 weeks the HSE’s Performance Monitoring and Improvement Unit will be based at UL Hospitals in Dooradoyle.

The Performance and Improvement Unit will be a dedicated resource to work collaboratively with HSE Mid West Community Healthcare and the UL Hospital Group to put in place enhanced measures to alleviate the pressure on the Emergency Deparment. HSE Mid West Community Healthcare staff will work as part of this team to implement measures that reduce the current pressures and that will assist in supporting the on-going day to day functions of both the hospital and community services. The improvements will have a positive impact on patient care and experience.

I, as Chief Officer welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with the PMIU and the Hospital Group to implement the immediate response and I would encourage all staff to support this joint effort in improving the day to day functioning and experiences of all patients utilising services across the Mid West.

Maria Bridgeman

Chief Officer
